40 Years in the making
Rust In Peace is a collection of actual photos that were taken and the stories that go along with them while growing up in south central Nebraska, later traveling the United States, presented and told by the author Kevin Houtwed over a 40 year period.

The Forever changing Book
Have you ever purchased a magazine or a book that you may read once or twice and then just toss it to the side and eventually chuck it in the dumpster? Well, I want you to consider this the forever changing book, as I will be adding new stories, photos and must know interesting things to this site on a weekly basis. My library of photos and true stories of actual events that surround the photos will keep you entertained for hours or as long as you remain to be a member to this site.
Cost of Membership
For a small fee of $19.95 per year you will get full access to this whole website for as many hours as you want to spend on it. With that you get everything listed above and much more. I hope you understand that I have literally spent my life putting this together and to be able to share this with the world means everything to me. I see so many people that are full of ideas or stories from the past that do not have any clue of how to share their life with the closest of family or friends, let alone to the entire globe that we all are on a mission to discover, called earth.
My Fascination With Rust
This really started sometime in the early 70’s when I would have been around 10 years old going coyote hunting with my Dad and my 3 older brothers in south central Nebraska where I grew up. We would drive out in big pastures and through vacant farmyards to get out in the fields to look for coyotes. In doing so, I started spotting old cars and trucks sitting all over, down in ravines along river banks etc. The love of those rusty relics and the settings surrounding them was something I knew needed to be preserved in more than just my memory. By the time I was in junior high I had my own motorcycle that I was forever running around going back to those places to see just what was there and if they were worth saving. As time went on I was always conning my older brothers into helping me haul something home in one of their pickups that I had found until I finally got my own truck. That is when I really got after it. I just wish so many times I had taken more pictures back then instead of just hauling them home to save them. So many parts, bodies and frames were saved in my area from my efforts back in those years that I could not even come close to giving out a number. Fast forward to 1985 when I had a terrible accident in a combine on our farm that left me with back issues for years until 2016 when I could not take it anymore. That is when, after seeing a specialist in Omaha Nebraska I found out that my 4th vertebrae had been broken right through the middle since that accident in 1985. Makes me sound pretty tough walking around for 31 years with a broken back, but the truth is no other doctor caught it for some reason. After a major back surgery I was bed ridden for 6 weeks with nothing to do but think about things like my days out inrustigating as I had every chance I got through the years. During that time is when I started my Facebook page Kevin’s Rust In Peace. That is what has lead me to this web site that I have worked endlessly on to share my life as a professional inrustigator to the world.
My Commitment
My commitment to you is to give you the best photography and knowledge that I have or have researched through years of being out there digging, listening, traveling, buying, selling or just plain learning the hard way. Trust me when I say, I am not the expert on every make and model that has ever been manufactured, but with my experience and interaction with other enthusiasts, I can assure you not only great entertainment, but accurate results to the best of my knowledge. As with the owners of these cars and trucks etc., I respect your privacy and refuse to share any private information that you may send me unless it falls under the “This Happened To Me” page and you want to have it posted. Daily, I operate a business that I started 33 years ago while a Freshman in College so I know what the value of our personal time is worth and with that I hope you see the value and appreciate this life long labor of love as much as I appreciate you.
