The Videos Collection is a part of Rust In Peace where we go in search of videos that are of great interest from days gone by. On this page you may see things that really are unbelievable or maybe you already have seen it before. This page like the whole web site is growing as we go and I will always be on the look out for the unusual to add for your interest and entertainment. Kevin Houtwed

1966 Ford Galaxie Starting after 30 years

April 19th 2010, the day I found it.

Back at the shop, cutting the log chain that was holding the hood down.

Lifting the hood for the first time in 30 plus years.

The first light that 428 had seen since 1980

In the shop and getting ready to see what we had.

This car was one I found on a farmyard about 35 miles west of Grand Island Nebraska one day when I was out doing a delivery on one of my products we manufacture back in 2010. I drove into the farmyard and as I was turning around a big old shop building I saw this car setting out in the weeds along with a lot of old junk machinery. As I was unloading the wire winder I had taken to the farmer I asked if the old Galaxie was for sale. He told me it was not his and that it had been parked there back in 1980 or 81 by a man that once worked for his dad. I walked over to the car to check it out and soon realized this was no ordinary 66 Ford, it was a 428 with a 4 speed and the XL package on top of that. I mean this one is the one to own if you are ever going to own a 66 Galaxie. After a little inrustigation I found the owner living in Kearney Nebraska who turned out to be an 83 year old man that purchased the car brand new in 1966. He also told me that the only reason he quit driving it was because of the gas it used and fuel had started to get a little pricy back in the early 80’s. He asked if the log chain was still under the hood that he put on it the day he parked it so the hood could not be raised? I told him it was and then asked if the original motor was still in it and with a little crooked grin he replied, you are not a fooling and that is why the chain was put on it back in the day when he parked it. He went on to tell me it took 9 months to get the car with the options and the turquoise color he ordered it in back in 66. He said that is a very rare car as he had done some home work on it over the years and was pretty sure there was very few set up like this and in turquoise to boot. We made a deal on the car and I still have it today in storage. It really does not look much different than it does in these pictures and the video above. The real difference is it no longer spends those cold winter nights under the stars or those 110 degree summer days baking in the sun. RIP
